Gujarat Assembly Approves Controversial Bill

On Tuesday, the Gujarat Assembly, governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), approved a significant bill aimed at decriminalizing certain minor offenses. This move has faced objections from both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Following extensive discussions regarding the bill's provisions and the intentions of the state government, the Gujarat Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Bill was passed by a majority vote. However, opposition parties, including Congress and AAP, refused to support the legislation.

Congress has called for a separate amendment bill for all 11 existing laws that the government intends to revise. Meanwhile, AAP legislator Gopal Italia criticized the bill, claiming it favors wrongdoers and criminals rather than facilitating the common citizen's business. He urged that the bill be sent to a committee for further review.
